About SkyK DevTools

SkyK DevTools is a collection of 46 developer utilities, almost all of which run entirely inside your web browser. It exists because the alternative — pasting a production API response or a live JSON Web Token into whichever ad-covered site ranks first that day — is a habit worth replacing.

How the tools work

Every tool is implemented in JavaScript that is downloaded to your device and executed there. For nearly all of them, there is no backend that receives your input — the site is a set of static files served from a CDN. Hashing uses the browser's built-in Web Crypto API, JSON parsing uses the browser's own parser, and so on.

The practical test is simple for those tools: open one, disconnect from the internet, and keep using it. It works, because nothing was ever going to be sent anywhere. The exception is the DNS/WHOIS, IP, and redirect-checker tools under Network & Lookup — browsers cannot query DNS, resolve WHOIS/RDAP registration data, geolocate an IP, or fetch an arbitrary cross-origin URL and read its response, so those three send what you enter to a small server function that performs the lookup and returns the result. Nothing is logged beyond that single request; see the privacy page for the specifics.

Why there are no ads

Ad networks and analytics scripts are third parties that observe what you do on a page. A site that promises privacy while embedding them is not being straightforward. SkyK DevTools carries no advertising and no ad-network scripts — fonts are self-hosted for the same reason. The project is maintained by SkyK as an open-source side project, and hosting a set of static files costs very little.

What is included

Reporting a bug or requesting a tool

Issues and suggestions are welcome by email at contact@skyk.net. If a tool gives a wrong result, that is treated as a priority — a utility you cannot trust is worse than no utility.

Privacy

The full details of what is and is not collected are on the privacy page. The short version: no accounts, and almost every tool has no server that could log your input — the three lookup tools under Network & Lookup are the named exception.
