Frequently asked questions

Is my input sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you paste is uploaded, logged, or stored on a server, which makes the tool safe to use with production data, credentials, and customer records.

Is a kilobyte 1000 or 1024 bytes?

Both definitions are in use, which is exactly why disk sizes never match what the operating system reports. Storage manufacturers use the decimal SI meaning, 1 kB = 1000 bytes. Operating systems and memory use the binary meaning, 1 KiB = 1024 bytes. A "1 TB" drive shows as roughly 931 GiB for this reason.

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply by 9/5 and add 32. So 20°C is (20 × 1.8) + 32 = 68°F. Temperature is unlike other units because the scales have different zero points, which is why you cannot convert a temperature by multiplying alone.

Why do imperial units differ between the US and UK?

They diverged. A US fluid ounce is about 29.6 ml while an imperial one is about 28.4 ml, and a US gallon is roughly 3.79 litres against the imperial 4.55. Recipes and fuel figures that cross the Atlantic without conversion are meaningfully wrong.
