Frequently asked questions

Do the QR codes expire or get tracked?

No. The data is encoded directly into the image and generated in your browser, so there is no redirect service in the middle. The code has no expiry date and no one — including us — can see how often it is scanned.

What is the error-correction level?

It sets how much of the code can be damaged or obscured while still scanning: L tolerates about 7%, M 15%, Q 25%, and H 30%. Higher correction means a denser grid for the same data. Use H if you plan to place a logo over the centre or the code will be printed on something that gets scuffed.

How much data can a QR code hold?

Up to about 4,296 alphanumeric characters at the lowest error correction, but that produces a very dense code that phones struggle to read. For reliable scanning keep URLs under roughly 300 characters — shorter codes have larger modules and scan much faster.

Why will my QR code not scan?

Usually contrast or size. Keep it dark-on-light rather than inverted, preserve the quiet zone — the blank margin of about four modules on every side — and print it at least 2cm across for close scanning. Very long payloads also make the grid too fine to resolve.
